Wednesday night flipped the script from earlier in the week. Girls basketball took over the gyms across the Thumb with eleven games scheduled while the boys only had one matchup. Guess everyone needed a breather after Tuesday’s busy night.
Yale boys handled Armada 72-43 in the only boys game. That’s a pretty solid beatdown. Armada tried but Yale was just too much. Twenty-nine point difference means it wasn’t even competitive after halftime. Yale’s been playing decent ball lately and this win keeps that going.
Now the girls side had way more action. Deckerville absolutely destroyed Mayville 67-13. Fifty-four point victory. That’s embarrassing for Mayville. Thirteen points for an entire game? Their offense couldn’t get anything going and Deckerville just piled it on. Somebody probably should’ve called a mercy rule there.
Cass City kept their momentum rolling against Bad Axe, winning 58-38. Twenty point game. Bad Axe lost to Cass City’s boys team earlier this week too, so that’s gotta sting. Cass City’s doing well right now on both sides. Bad Axe needs to figure something out before their season gets away from them.
Brown City got some payback after their boys got demolished by Harbor Beach. The Brown City girls beat Harbor Beach 45-33. Twelve point win. Harbor Beach girls aren’t as strong as their boys team apparently. Brown City needed that one after watching their boys lose by nearly 40.
Caro beat EPBP Lakers 55-28. That’s a comfortable win for Caro. Twenty-seven point spread. Lakers had a close game with Caro earlier in the week on the boys side but the girls couldn’t keep it tight. Caro dominated from start to finish.
Kingston crushed Midland Calvary 69-45. Kingston’s putting up serious numbers lately. Twenty-four point win is solid. Midland Calvary kept it closer than some other teams but Kingston was never in danger of losing.
Owendale-Gagetown handled Caseville 53-25. That’s a twenty-eight point blowout. Caseville’s struggling on both boys and girls sides this week. Small town schools sometimes have rough stretches during the season when injuries or schedules hit hard.
USA Patriots beat Millington 44-37 in one of the closer games. Seven points. Millington hung around but USA made enough plays late to close it out. USA’s boys team won a tight one against Millington too, so the Patriots swept them this week.
Yale girls had a much tougher time than the boys. They squeaked past Armada 36-32. Four-point game. Yale boys won by 29 but the girls nearly lost. Shows you how different teams can be even in the same school. Armada girls played way better than their boys team did.
All Saints beat Carsonville-Port Sanilac 31-17. Low-scoring defensive battle. Neither team could buy a basket. All Saints won by 14 but only scored 31 points themselves. That’s rough basketball to watch.
Kinde-North Huron beat Akron-Fairgrove 41-26. Fifteen-point win. Pretty standard outcome. Nothing crazy, just a solid victory for North Huron.
Croswell-Lexington destroyed Almont 52-29. Twenty-three point margin. Almont got boat-raced. Croswell-Lex is playing good ball right now.
One game got cancelled – Peck versus Dryden on the girls side. Weather probably. Roads around here get nasty in January and schools aren’t risking it.
What’s interesting is how the schedule flipped. Tuesday had mostly boys games with just one girls game. Wednesday reversed it with eleven girls games and one boys game. Probably just how the conference schedules worked out but it’s a weird split.
Some teams are clearly on different levels. When you’re winning by 50+ points like Deckerville did, that’s a talent gap. Mayville scored thirteen points total. That’s brutal. Community sports bring people together even when scores get lopsided, but nights like that are tough for the losing team.
More games coming up this weekend probably. Season’s heating up and teams are starting to separate into contenders and rebuilders. Cass City looks solid on both sides. Yale boys are rolling. Deckerville girls are unstoppable right now.
